Daisy Jones & The Six

Daisy Jones & The Six, Taylor Jenkins Reid Fiction, Music, Contemporary Romance

416 pages

5/5 stars

Synopsis: For a while, Daisy Jones & The Six were everywhere. Their albums were on every turntable, they sold out arenas from coast to coast, their sound defined an era. And then, on 12 July 1979, they split. Nobody ever knew why. Until now. They were lovers and friends and brothers and rivals. They couldn't believe their luck, until it ran out. This is their story of the early days and the wild nights, but everyone remembers the truth differently. The only thing they all know for sure is that from the moment Daisy Jones walked barefoot, on to the stage at the Whisky, the band were irrevocably changed. Making music is never just about the music. And sometimes it can be hard to tell where the sound stops and the feelings begin.

This book was such an experience! From the very first page, I had travelled back in time, to the era of Rock & Roll. Taylor Jenkins Reid allowed me to escape real life for just a moment and placed myself front row, right in the middle of Daisy Jones’ mind. And let me tell you… what an icon she is! This book is very feminist, if you want to read something that is full of girl power, then this book is for you! The story has a very strong message about female empowerment and all the women within this book play a big role in helping the male characters through their addiction and other problems in life.

I loved everything about this book, the journalistic interview style of writing in each characters point of view made this book unique and interesting. You dive into their minds to see each perspective and feel like you know them well. Each character has the ability to charm you and it is impossible to not feel their experiences with heartbreak, love, addiction and fame. I was very interested in how Reid wrote about addiction, it was very heartbreaking and exposed a lot of truth. The way she explored these themes made you understand what it can do to someone who is struggling and I soon became emotionally attached to Daisy and Billy.

You will come away from this book… convinced this band is real! Being able to glimpse into the 70's was such a treat. Reid definitely did not disappoint, the hype around this book met my expectations! Not long after finishing this book, I found out it was going to be a TV series on Amazon! My heart is full again. Highly recommend.
