My Life With Murderers

My Life With Murderers , David Wilson Non-Fiction, Memoir, True Crime 288 pages 4/5 stars Synopsis:

Professor David Wilson has spent his professional life working with violent men - especially men who have committed murder. Aged twenty-nine he became, at that time, the UK's youngest ever prison Governor in charge of a jail and his career since then has seen him sat across a table with all sorts of killers: sometimes in a tense interview; sometimes sharing a cup of tea (or something a little stronger); sometimes looking them in the eye to tell them that they are a psychopath.

Some of these men became David's friends; others would still love to kill him. ***

David Wilson gives you an interesting and exciting insight into the mind of the darkest and most disturbing men. Professor Wilson meets with serial killers, hitmen, mass killers etc. One famous name to be involved, is Des Nilsen. The book is thought-provoking and sensitive, with detailed interviews throughout. Chapter Four ‘Psychopathy’ was my favourite part of the book as he speaks about what makes you a psychopath, encountering how he puts his theories into practice, from his award winning documentary ‘Interview with a Murderer’. Also, let’s be honest! Once you’ve read this book you will subconsciously take the Hare Psychopathy Checklist Test! I know I did! There are academic and theoretical sources throughout and you do not need to be a Criminology or Psychology student to enjoy this book! If you love true crime, this is a great and compelling read.
