Ready Player One

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline Fiction, Action, Fantasy 374 pages 5/5 stars Synopsis:

‘It's the year 2044, and the real world has become an ugly place. We're out of oil. We've wrecked the climate. Famine, poverty, and disease are widespread.

Like most of humanity, Wade Watts escapes this depressing reality by spending his waking hours jacked into the OASIS, a sprawling virtual utopia where you can be anything you want to be, where you can live and play and fall in love on any of ten thousand planets. And like most of humanity, Wade is obsessed by the ultimate lottery ticket that lies concealed within this alternate reality: OASIS founder James Halliday, who dies with no heir, has promised that control of the OASIS - and his massive fortune - will go to the person who can solve the riddles he has left scattered throughout his creation.’

I LOVED THIS BOOK! 👏🏻 what a fun and exciting ride! I loved every aspect... it was filled with technology, action, friendship and trust. The narrative links to 80s pop culture, which I really enjoyed! I wasn’t born within the 80s but I understood unknown references due to Cline’s detail!

Ready Player One is set in the future of 2044. The Oasis is an alternate reality that depicts not only entertainment but comfort and safety for so many players. In my opinion, this story met the hype on Bookstagram... I couldn’t put it down! Cline’s imagination is superb due to the way he created and described the Oasis. It formed such a strong visual element in my mind. I am not usually into sci-fi fantasy books but this was a typical “Bookstagram made me buy it” and I am SO glad I did!

You do not need to be into video games to enjoy this book, the easy descriptions and loveable characters complete this unique and fun story. If you need to escape everyday life for a little while - just like these characters... I highly recommend you read this book!
