Ikigai (pronounced E-key-guy) is a Japanese concept that means "a reason for being."

The Little Book of Ikigai was needed to start 2021 in a positive light! It was an interesting and soothing read. I was reading a few chapters a night before bed, where I learnt about life philosophies within Japan and how this book can guide you to discover your own ‘Ikigai’. Ken Mogi speaks about how to find fulfilment, joy and mindfulness in everything you do. Each chapter is based on everyday life, including reasons to get up in the morning, happiness, sustainability, creativity and acceptance. Mogi uses examples in how Ikigai can fit into these parts of your life. I really enjoy reading about Japanese culture and history so this was something that I read easily and quickly! I learnt a lot and now I want to visit Japan more than ever! There are cute illustrations at the end of each chapter, which made the book more up lifting and enjoyable. If you are into books about ‘finding your purpose in life’ or a positive guide to finding happiness - than you will like this quirky little read. Good start to the year!
